Description

An Ikat weave is a craft that tests the skills of two sets of artisans, tie-dye experts and weavers, to create some stunning masterpieces. They draw inspiration from the cultural nuances of different regions including Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat in India. The yarns are tightly wrapped together and then resist dyed to create the desired pattern. This unique dyeing technique differentiates IKAT from other resist dyed fabrics in which the cloth is dyed & not the yarn. Weaving thus becomes an extremely complex process, as the weaver has to ensure precision while placing the yarn to form a correct pattern when woven.
